Väinö Kalle Kolkkala was born in Loimaa on June 29, 1883, and died in Jyväskylä on May 28, 1952. He was a Finnish journalist and author who also wrote under the pen names Kulo and Väinö Kulo.
He studied at the Turku Lyceum and graduated in 1903. After a study trip to Berlin, he worked in journalism, and sources connect him especially with Savonlinna, where he served as editor-in-chief of the newspaper Itä-Savo. His fiction is described as having strong links to the people and life of the Savonlinna region.
Kolkkala was a prolific writer over several decades, producing stories, novels, and poems. In addition to his literary work, he is known in Finland as the writer of the lyrics to Varsinaissuomalaisten laulu.
