Väinö Kolkkala

Born into a farming family in Loimaa on June 29, 1883, Väinö Kolkkala studied at the Turku Lyceum and graduated in 1903. After a study trip to Berlin, he began a career in journalism, working as an editorial secretary and editor-in-chief for newspapers in Loimaa, Jyväskylä, and the Savo region. He lived in Savonlinna from 1917 to 1920 and became a freelance journalist and writer in 1930.

Kolkkala published fiction and poetry across four decades, including Lyyli, Elämän murhe, Ihmisen osa, and Kohtalon kourat. His 1948 memoir, Taipaleella tapaamiani, recalled encounters from his life, including those with fellow writers such as Eino Leino and Joel Lehtonen. He died in Jyväskylä on May 28, 1952.
