About the author

Born Katherine Ursula Towle in Boston in 1899, Ursula Parrott became a prolific novelist, short-story writer, and screenwriter. Her 1929 debut novel, Ex-Wife, drew attention for its frank portrayal of divorce, infidelity, abortion, and the changing lives of working women in New York.

Parrott went on to publish numerous novels and stories, many of which were adapted for the screen. From 1930 to 1936, eight of her works were sold for film adaptations, including Ex-Wife, which became the 1930 film The Divorcee starring Norma Shearer. Although her popularity later faded, her work has been rediscovered as an important record of women’s lives and cultural change during the Jazz Age.
