About the author

Born in Hartola on January 28, 1853, Uno Otto Gabriel von Schrowe was a Finnish writer whose work connected poetry, journalism, teaching, and translation. Finnish reference sources describe him as the first known literary poet from the Itä-Häme area, and older literary histories note that he studied at school in Jyväskylä before later working as a teacher.

Von Schrowe also translated work by the Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi, showing an interest in bringing European poetry into Finnish. His collection Runoja is available through Project Gutenberg, which has helped keep his writing accessible to new readers.

He died on October 1, 1886, in Görbersdorf, Silesia, Germany, at just 33 years old. Although not widely known today, he remains a small but interesting figure in 19th-century Finnish literary history.
