About the author
The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine began in 1886 as the Western Pennsylvania Medical College, created by Pittsburgh physicians who wanted stronger medical training for a growing industrial city. After affiliating with the Western University of Pennsylvania in 1891, it later became part of the University of Pittsburgh and developed into the medical school now widely known as Pitt Med.
Today, the school offers the M.D. degree along with graduate training in biomedical science, clinical research, medical education, and related fields.
