A scientist turned novelist, she created the wildly popular Outlander books by blending history, romance, adventure, and time travel in a way that feels entirely her own. Her stories have drawn millions of readers into Claire and Jamie Fraser’s world and inspired a hit television adaptation.
Before becoming a bestselling novelist, she built a career in science and academia. Diana Gabaldon earned degrees in zoology and marine biology, followed by a Ph.D. in quantitative behavioral ecology, and later taught at Arizona State University.
She began writing fiction in the late 1980s, and her first novel, Outlander, was published in 1991. The book launched a long-running series known for mixing historical fiction with romance, mystery, adventure, and a touch of fantasy through time travel.
Alongside the novels, her work expanded into related stories, including the Lord John books, and Outlander was adapted for television in 2014. She has also written for the screen, making her one of those rare authors whose voice carries across both page and screen.
