About the author

Born in Apolda on January 8, 1860, Carl Lebrecht Udo Dammer was a German botanist whose official botanical author abbreviation is Dammer. He studied at the University of Freiburg and later built his career around plant research and classification.

Dammer worked at the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin from 1889 to 1919. Alongside botany, he was also interested in entomology, which suggests a broad curiosity about the natural world rather than a narrow focus on a single field.

He died on November 15, 1920, in Großrambin near Kolberg. Today, he is remembered mainly through botanical literature, plant names he described, and the author citation that still marks his place in scientific history.
