Born and raised in Caerphilly, South Wales, Thomas Morris is a Welsh writer and editor who was educated in Welsh before studying English and Philosophy at Trinity College Dublin. He later completed the creative writing MA at the University of East Anglia and has also worked with the Welsh TV channel S4C.
His debut story collection, We Don’t Know What We’re Doing (2015), brought him wide attention, winning the Wales Book of the Year, the Rhys Davies Trust Fiction Award, and a Somerset Maugham Prize. His stories have appeared in well-known publications and anthologies, and he was named one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists.
Morris followed that debut with Open Up (2023), another collection praised for its intelligence, humor, and humanity. Alongside his fiction, he has worked as an editor and mentor, building a reputation as a thoughtful voice in contemporary Welsh and British literature.
