Born on December 23, 1872, Thomas Middleton was an English author, historian, churchman, and politician associated with Hyde in Greater Manchester. Sources describe him as an early contributor of short stories to the North Cheshire Herald, and note that he began work on Annals of Hyde and District while still a young man.

Middleton is best remembered for writing about the places and traditions around Hyde and Longdendale.
