Thomas Q. Carney is a professor emeritus of Aviation Technology at Purdue University and a former head of the department. Purdue says he taught there beginning in 1972, built a career around aviation technology and atmospheric science, and focused his scholarly work on areas such as aviation meteorology, turbine operations, high-altitude flight, and corporate flight department management.

Alongside his academic work, he has logged more than 11,000 flight hours and held advanced pilot and instructor certifications.
