About the author

Born on December 18, 1874, in New York, Theodore Burt Sayre built a career as both a novelist and dramatist. Reference sources and library records connect him with New York literary life and show that his books included Two Summer Girls and I (1898), The Son of Carleycroft (1900), and Tom Moore, a historical romance centered on the Irish poet.

Sayre also wrote for the theater, and his plays were produced on Broadway around the turn of the century. Among the best-documented is The Commanding Officer, which appeared on Broadway in 1909 and was later adapted into a 1915 silent film. Contemporary biographical references describe him as the author of numerous plays, including works associated with Irish-themed stage productions.

He died in New York in November 1954. Although he is not widely remembered today, surviving editions of his novels, theater records, and film credits show a writer who worked across several popular forms at a time when American publishing and live theater were closely linked.
