About the author

Born in Kinrooi, Belgium, on May 16, 1848, and later active in Kortrijk, Theodoor Sevens was a Flemish writer, archivist, historian, and educator. Sources describe him as deeply involved in cultural life in Kortrijk, where he worked with the Davidsfonds, helped found the magazine De Kouter, and also took part in municipal politics.

Sevens wrote across several fields rather than staying in just one lane. In addition to literary work, he published on local history and pedagogy, and his surviving bibliography shows a strong interest in the culture and past of Flanders. That mix of teacher, civic figure, and historian gives his books a grounded, observant quality.

He died in Kortrijk on April 10, 1927. Today he is remembered as one of those authors whose writing preserves a sense of place: not just major events, but the towns, traditions, and local stories that shaped Flemish life.
