About the author

Born in 1813 and died in 1864, T. J. Terrington is identified in library and public-domain records as Thomas John Terrington, an English poet. He is best known now for Christmas at the Hall: The Hero's Grave; Night Musings, and Other Poems, published in 1853 and preserved through Project Gutenberg and other library collections.

Terrington also appears as co-author, with Samuel Wilderspin, of A Manual for the Religious and Moral Instruction of Young Children in the Nursery and Infant School from 1845. That pairing suggests a writer interested not only in poetry, but also in moral and religious education.

Very little else about his life is readily confirmed from reliable online sources, which makes his surviving books all the more valuable. What remains points to a 19th-century writer drawn to devotional themes, instruction, and lyrical storytelling.
