About the author

Born Toivo Edvard Kari in Ikaalinen on August 6, 1886, he used T. E. Kivipelto as his pen name. Finnish reference sources describe him as a librarian and playwright, and note that his day job was as a turner.

He lived in the Tahmela area of Pirkkala and was active in workers' associations in nearby Pispala. That background helps explain why his writing is often linked with labor and social questions of his time.

He died in Tampere on September 14, 1943. A surviving example of his work is Aarne Kalske, a four-act play that has remained available through digital archives such as Project Gutenberg.
