About the author

Born in Toronto in 1854, Thomas Stinson Jarvis was a Canadian-American writer and lawyer. He studied and practiced law in Ontario before leaving that career path behind to pursue writing, first in New York City and later in California.

Jarvis published across several genres. His books included the travel work Letters from East Longitudes (1875), the novel Geoffrey Hampstead (1890), and The Ascent of Life (1894), which explored psychic and spiritual themes. He also wrote for the popular press and continued publishing into the early 20th century, including The Price of Peace in 1921.

Although he never became a major literary celebrity, Jarvis left behind a varied body of work that reflects both ambition and curiosity. His career stands out for the way it bridged law, journalism, fiction, travel writing, and metaphysical inquiry before his death in 1926.
