About the author

Born in Missolonghi in 1788, Spyridon Trikoupis was a Greek statesman, diplomat, orator, and historian whose life was closely tied to the creation of the modern Greek state. He became active during the years of the Greek struggle for independence and went on to play an important role in public life after independence.

He served in high office, including a brief term as the first prime minister of Greece, and was also entrusted with diplomatic work abroad. Alongside politics, he built a strong reputation as a writer and public speaker, moving with ease between government service and intellectual life.

Trikoupis is remembered above all for his multi-volume History of the Greek Revolution, one of the early major accounts of the war that founded modern Greece. He died in 1873, leaving behind a legacy that connects national politics, diplomacy, and historical memory.
