About the author

Born in Aarhus on October 23, 1850, Sophus Gustav Bauditz became known in Denmark as a writer, dramatist, and schoolman. Sources agree that he spent much of his professional life in education while writing fiction and plays that reached a wide audience.

His work is often described as light, engaging, and closely connected to Danish life and landscape. Biographical sources note his love of outdoor life in his youth, and that feeling seems to carry into the atmosphere of his writing, which is frequently associated with nature, rural settings, and a gentle comic touch.

Bauditz died in Copenhagen on August 16, 1915. Though not as internationally famous as some of his contemporaries, he was clearly a well-known literary figure in his own time, with a reputation that joined popular storytelling to a serious career in public education.
