About the author

Born Karl Josef Alfred Hedenstierna in 1852, he wrote under the pseudonym Sigurd and became known as a Swedish journalist, humorist, and author. He was born in Ryssby in Småland and died in Stockholm in 1906.

After working in agriculture, he moved into journalism and was associated with Smålandsposten in Växjö, eventually serving as its chief editor. His columns, stories, and novels were noted for their lively tone and for their interest in Swedish everyday and rural life.

Today, he is remembered both under his own name and under the signature Sigurd, which appeared on the humorous pieces and prose sketches that made him popular with readers of his time.
