About the author

Born near Mallow, County Cork, in 1856, he came from a long-established Anglo-Irish family and was the son of architect Thomas Royse Lysaght and Emily Moss. Reliable biographical sources describe him as a poet, novelist, and businessman, and note that he was educated before attending Trinity College Dublin.

Alongside his writing, he worked in the family iron business, John Lysaght & Co., in Bristol. He also spent time at Banwell Castle in Somerset, and his life was marked by travel as well as literary friendships; accounts of his career note that he visited Robert Louis Stevenson in Samoa in 1894.

He wrote both poetry and fiction, and he remained connected to Ireland throughout his life. Sidney Royse Lysaght died in 1941, leaving behind a career that balanced commerce, travel, and imaginative writing in a way that now feels distinctly Victorian and Edwardian.
