Born on August 27, 1897, Sharat Kumar Roy was a geologist of Indian origin who built his career in the United States. He became known for his work in paleontology, volcanology, and especially meteorites, bringing a wide scientific curiosity to the books and papers he produced.
Roy worked at the Chicago Natural History Museum as a curator of geology and joined several museum expeditions. His research ranged from ancient fossils to Arctic geology, and he is also noted as the first person of Indian origin to take part in an expedition toward the North Pole.
