About the author

Sereno D. Clark, identified in library records as Sereno Dickenson Clark, was a 19th-century American religious writer and Congregational minister. Surviving editions and catalog records connect him with Boston publishing and with the world of New England Protestant ministry.

He is best known for The Faithful Steward; Or, Systematic Beneficence an Essential of Christian Character, a work published in the 1850s and described in its early text as a "Prize Essay." The book argues for regular, intentional giving, and it helped establish his reputation as a writer concerned with practical Christian duty rather than abstract theology alone.

Clark also wrote The New England Ministry Sixty Years Ago: The Memoir of John Woodbridge (published in 1877), a substantial volume that looks back on an earlier generation of ministers. That later work suggests the range of his interests: not only preaching and moral instruction, but also recording the people, habits, and religious culture of New England.
