About the author

Born in Gateshead, England, in 1865, Septimus Sisson built his career around veterinary medicine and comparative anatomy. Sources identify him as a British veterinarian and anatomist who later worked in North America, including at The Ohio State University, where he served as a professor of comparative anatomy.

He is best remembered for major reference works such as A Text-book of Veterinary Anatomy and The Anatomy of the Domestic Animals. These books focused on the structure of horses and other domestic animals and were valued by teachers, students, and practitioners of veterinary medicine.

Sisson died in Berkeley, California, in 1924. Although he is not a widely known public figure today, his writing had a lasting place in veterinary education and helped standardize anatomical study for generations of readers.
