About the author

Born on August 19, 1778, in Neunburg vorm Wald, Sebastian Dachauer was a German theologian and a Heimatforscher, or regional historian, active in Upper Bavaria. Sources also note that his baptismal name was Wolfgang Sebastian Dachauer.

He studied theology, spent time with the Augustinian Hermits, and after the secular changes of the early 1800s served as a secular clergyman. He is closely associated with Brannenburg and later Fischbach am Inn, where he died on February 24, 1863.

Dachauer is remembered less as a literary stylist than as a careful recorder of local history. Works attributed to him include accounts tied to Brannenburg and its surroundings, and they remain useful to readers interested in Bavarian religious, cultural, and regional life in the 19th century.
