Born in March 1864, Sarah Noble Ives was an American author, illustrator, and historian. She wrote for children and adults, and her work also appeared in newspapers and magazines including the New York Herald Tribune, the Boston Globe, and McClure's. Some of her writing was published under the name Noble Ives.

She is especially remembered for children's books such as Dog Heroes of Many Lands and Songs of the Shining Way. Her writing often drew on legend, history, and traditional stories, and her background as an illustrator helped give her books a strong visual character.

Later in life, she also turned to historical research and writing. That mix of imagination and careful study gives her work a distinctive feel: readable and adventurous, but grounded in a real interest in culture and the past.
