Born in Kétegyháza on March 27, 1853, and died in Gödöllő on July 1, 1925, Sándor Márki was a Hungarian historian known for his work on Hungarian and Transylvanian history. He studied history and geography, then built a career as both a secondary-school teacher and a scholar.

Márki later became a university professor in Kolozsvár, where he was part of the intellectual life of one of the most important Hungarian academic centers of his time. His writing covered major figures and events from Hungarian history, and he was especially valued for making serious historical research readable and useful for a broader public.
