About the author

Salahuddin Khuda Bukhsh (1877–1931) was described by Trinity College, Cambridge, as a historian and essayist. Published editions of his work also identify him as M.A., B.C.L., and Bar-at-Law, and show that he wrote in English on Islam, history, and literary subjects.

His known books include The Islam of Mohamed, Essays Indian and Islamic, Contributions to the History of Islamic Civilization, and A History of the Islamic Peoples. He also wrote Khuda Bukhsh: Founder of the Bankipore Oriental Public Library and My Father: His Life and Reminiscences, which connect his work to the legacy of the great library founded by his father in Patna.

His writing suggests a broad interest in explaining Islamic thought and civilization to modern readers in an accessible way. Even from the surviving catalog and archive records, he comes across as a learned, wide-ranging author whose work sits between scholarship, cultural history, and personal remembrance.
