Born on May 8, 1890, in Gateshead, Ruth Dodds was an English writer who spent most of her life in the North East. She was the daughter of bookbinder and historian Edwin Dodds, and she lived for many years at Home House in Low Fell with her sisters Hope and Sylvia.
Alongside her writing, she was active in public life. She joined the Labour Party after the First World War, was elected to Gateshead Council in 1929, and later became the first woman freeman of Gateshead. She is also known, with her sisters, for helping to found the Little Theatre Gateshead.
Her work included novels, plays, and writing rooted in history and regional life. Ruth Dodds died on April 1, 1976. No suitable confirmed portrait image was found during this search, so a profile image is not included here.
