by Madeleine Hope Dodds, Ruth Dodds
Born in Gateshead on May 8, 1890, Ruth Dodds was an English writer, playwright, and councillor who spent much of her life at Home House in Low Fell with her sisters. She was the daughter of Edwin Dodds, a bookbinder and historian, and she remained closely connected to the civic and cultural life of the North East throughout her long life.
Dodds became involved in public life after the First World War and was elected to Gateshead Council in 1929. Alongside her political work, she wrote plays and other literary works, and she is remembered as part of the region's theatrical and intellectual history.
She died on April 1, 1976. Reliable pages found for this overview confirm her importance as a writer, playwright, and councillor, but I did not find a clear usable portrait image on the available page, so no profile image is included here.
