Rudolf Johannes Schmied was an Argentine writer who wrote in German. Library and authority records identify him as a writer born in Buenos Aires in 1878, and several sources place his death in Paraguay in 1935.
Very little about his life seems firmly documented. Contemporary and later book notes describe him as someone who avoided publicity, while also recalling him as a memorable storyteller in Berlin literary circles, especially around the Café des Westens and Café Größenwahn.
He is most closely associated with Carlos und Nicolás and related books, stories that draw on childhood and adventure in Argentina. Those works helped preserve his name, even though the surviving biographical record is surprisingly thin.
