About the author

Born in 1891, Ruby Lorraine Radford was a native of Augusta, Georgia, and spent much of her life there. She taught in the Augusta public school system from 1912 to 1920, then continued graduate study at Columbia University in 1921.

Radford went on to write more than 50 works. Library and archival sources describe her books as frequently centered on Georgia history and often featuring female protagonists. She also wrote under the pen names Marcia Ford and Matilda Bailey.

Her work and community involvement made her a notable figure in Augusta literary life. She was credited as a co-founder of the Augusta Authors Club, remained active in local arts and library circles, and was named Author of the Year by the Dixie Council of Authors and Journalists in 1969.
