About the author

Rose T. Briggs, identified by Project Gutenberg as Rose Thornton Briggs (1893–1981), co-authored A Guide to Plymouth and Its History with Helen T. Briggs. The book was originally published in 1938 by the Pilgrim Society and the Plymouth Antiquarian Society, and it reflects a close knowledge of Plymouth’s people, places, and memorial traditions.

According to the Plymouth Antiquarian Society, she was born in Plymouth on May 26, 1893, the daughter of George R. and Helen Taber Briggs. She lived much of her life at Indian Brook in Manomet, and her family was closely involved in local historical work; her mother helped found the Plymouth Antiquarian Society in 1919.

Rose Briggs is also remembered as part of the living history of Plymouth itself. The Plymouth Antiquarian Society preserves a photograph of her at the loom in the Harlow House around 1930, showing her connection not just to writing about the past, but to preserving and interpreting it in practice.
