About the author

Born in Albosaggia in 1831, Romualdo Bonfadini was an Italian journalist, politician, magistrate, historian, and patriot. Sources agree that he took part in the Five Days of Milan while still young, and that his early democratic leanings later shifted toward a more moderate monarchist outlook.

He wrote for important Italian periodicals and newspapers, including Il Crepuscolo, Il Politecnico, and La Perseveranza, building a reputation as a public intellectual as well as a political figure. Bonfadini also served as a deputy and later a senator of the Kingdom of Italy, linking his literary and historical interests closely to national politics.

He is remembered not only for his public career but also for historical works such as Mezzo secolo di patriottismo, which reflects his long engagement with the story of Italian nationhood. He died in Sondrio in 1899.
