About the author

Roberts Beaumont was a British textile specialist, teacher, and writer born near Huddersfield on June 25, 1862. After training in the textile trades, he joined the textile department at what became the University of Leeds, first as a lecturer and later as professor, helping build its reputation as an important center for textile education.

He wrote extensively about weaving, cloth structure, finishing, carpets, and textile design. His books include Woollen and Worsted Cloth Manufacture, Colour in Woven Design, The Finishing of Textile Fabrics, and Carpets and Rugs. Together they show a writer deeply interested in both the science and the craft of fabric making.

Beaumont seems to have had a gift for explaining complicated processes in a practical way, which helps explain why his books have lasted well beyond his own time. Sources found during research agree that he was an influential figure in textile industries education, though some records differ on his year of death; library catalogs commonly list 1924, while other archival sources point to 1922.
