Robert Vaughan

Robert Vaughan was an American writer who published more than 400 books, with some publisher biographies crediting him with over 500 across a career that lasted nearly six decades. He wrote in many genres, including westerns, historical fiction, romance, and adventure, and also worked under pseudonyms such as Paula Moore and Paula Fairman.

Before and alongside his writing life, he served in the U.S. Army and later retired as a Chief Warrant Officer. Publisher and obituary sources describe him as a decorated veteran, and that military background helped shape the action, history, and hard-earned realism that run through much of his fiction.

He earned major recognition for his work, including the 1977 Porgie Award for The Power and the Pride. Publisher biographies also credit him with appearances on the New York Times and USA TODAY bestseller lists, a Spur Award for Survival, and honors for excellence in western fiction. Vaughan died in March 2024, leaving behind an enormous body of work for readers who enjoy classic page-turning storytelling.
