Born in 1697, Robert Paltock was an English attorney and novelist. Reliable reference sources agree that he is chiefly remembered for The Life and Adventures of Peter Wilkins, a Cornish Man (1751), a fantasy-rich adventure that helped keep his name alive long after his own lifetime.
Paltock practiced law as well as writing, and that combination gives his career an interesting contrast: everyday professional life on one side, and an expansive, highly imaginative fictional world on the other. Though not a widely prolific author, he earned a lasting place in literary history through this single notable work.
He died on March 20, 1767. I wasn't able to confirm a suitable portrait image from the sources I checked, so no profile image is included here.
