About the author

Born in New York State in 1839, Robert M. Rogers later settled in Vermilion County, Illinois. During the Civil War he served in the 125th Illinois Infantry, an experience that became the basis for the work he is remembered for.

Rogers wrote The 125th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry: Attention Battalion!, published in 1882. The book is valued as a participant's account of the regiment's organization, campaigns, and daily life, giving readers a personal view of Union service rather than a distant summary.

Available sources connect him with the name Robert Maxwell Rogers and place his death in 1904. I could confirm his military connection and his authorship of the regimental history, but I did not find a reliable portrait image to use here.
