About the author

An outdoors writer since 1975, he built a long career writing about fishing and life on the water. Before that, he spent 26 years in the military, a background that took him across much of Canada and Central Europe and helped shape the wide-ranging experience behind his books and articles.

He was closely connected to Canada's outdoor writing community, serving as a past president and life member of the Outdoor Writers of Canada. He also received two of the organization's top honours, the Pete McGillen Award for service and the Jack Davis Mentor's Award, and ABC BookWorld notes that he earned 20 writing awards beginning in 1980.

His books include Make Your Own Fishing Tackle, Tangled Lines and Patched Waders, Warped Rods and Squeaky Reels, Island Halibut Fisherman, and Island Salmon Fisherman. TouchWood Editions describes him as an award-winning outdoor writer whose articles and columns appeared in magazines across North America, and notes that although he fished around the world, he made his home in Courtenay, British Columbia, where he lived with his wife Vera, also a writer and editor.
