Robert J. Cressman is an American naval historian known for writing extensively about the U.S. Navy, especially World War II. He has been associated with the U.S. Naval Institute, which notes that he lives in Silver Spring, Maryland and that his work has earned major recognition in the field.

His book The Official Chronology of the United States Navy in World War II received the John Lyman Book Award in 1999. The U.S. Naval Institute also says his broader work on U.S. naval aviation history was honored with the Admiral Arthur W. Radford Award in 2008.
