by Pompeu Crehuet i Pardas
Born in Barcelona on March 11, 1881, Pompeu Crehuet i Pardas was a Catalan dramatist and journalist. Reliable reference sources describe him as an author of drama and prose who also trained in law and worked in public administration, first with the Mancomunitat de Catalunya and later with the Barcelona Provincial Government.
He was active in literary and theatrical circles in the early 1900s. Sources credit him with editing the magazine De tots colors from 1907 to 1913, and note that he also directed Revista Catalana and contributed to theater publications, sometimes using the pseudonym Espill. His dramatic writing is generally associated with urban or high comedy centered on middle-class life, and one of his early well-known works was La morta.
Crehuet also wrote narrative prose, including children’s stories, and received recognition for his play Bromes i veres, which won the Fastenrath Prize in 1927. He died in Sant Feliu de Guíxols on August 28, 1941.
