A once-famous French pen name hides an unusual writing partnership behind tales of adventure and emotion for young readers. The books signed this way were major popular successes around the turn of the 20th century before gradually fading from view after World War II.

by Pierre Maël
Pierre Maël was not a single writer, but the shared pseudonym of two French authors: Charles Causse (1862–1904) and Charles Vincent (1851–1920). Together they wrote adventure stories and sentimental novels for young readers, and the name became especially well known in French publishing in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Their novels were widely read and sold very successfully in their day. Modern library and reference sources still connect the name with a substantial body of youth fiction, especially sea stories, adventures, and popular historical tales.
A portrait image is not included here because the most readily available page consulted presents the pseudonym as a joint author identity rather than offering a clear, verifiable single-author portrait suitable for display.
