About the author

Born in Ireland in 1822, Philip Bennett Power studied at Trinity College, Dublin, and went on to serve in the Church of England ministry. Sources describe him as a prolific writer of evangelical tracts and devotional works, combining pastoral experience with a clear, accessible style.

His ministry included early work in Leicester and Holloway, London, followed by service at Woburn Chapel. He later became incumbent of Christ Church, Worthing, a role he held from 1855 to 1865.

Power is remembered chiefly for religious books written to strengthen and comfort readers, including A Book of Comfort for Those in Sickness and The 'I Wills' of the Psalms. He died in 1899, leaving behind a body of writing shaped by pastoral concern and a gift for simple spiritual encouragement.
