A 19th-century Dutch priest and local historian, he is remembered for preserving the story of Tegelen and its neighboring villages in careful chronological detail. His best-known work offers a vivid window into the history of Limburg communities.

by Petrus Gerardus Peeters
Born in Tegelen on May 23, 1829, Petrus Gerardus Peeters studied at the minor seminary in Rolduc and was ordained as a priest in Roermond on March 8, 1856. He later served as chaplain in Echt and Blerick, and in 1881 he became pastor in Wijnandsrade.
Alongside his church work, he wrote about the history of his home region. He is best known for Chronologische beschrijving van Tegelen: benevens aanteekeningen over Belfeld en Steijl, a detailed local history that helped preserve the story of Tegelen and nearby places for later readers.
Peeters died in Wijnandsrade on September 21, 1887. Though little personal information about him is widely available today, his writing remains a useful record of local life and memory in Limburg.
