Born in Untergermaringen in 1878 and raised in the Allgäu region of Bavaria, Peter Dörfler became a German Catholic priest, educator, and writer. He studied theology, philosophy, and archaeology, and those interests shaped both his religious life and his literary voice.

Dörfler is remembered for fiction and autobiographical writing that drew on childhood, village life, and Catholic culture. Alongside his books, he also worked in education and contributed to Catholic literary life, building a reputation as a writer whose stories were closely tied to the people and landscapes he knew best.

He died in Munich in 1955. Today, he is mainly known as a regional and religiously rooted German author whose writing connects personal memory with history, belief, and everyday life.
