About the author

Born on May 9, 1825, in Slavkov u Brna, Peregrin Obdržálek was a Czech Catholic priest and writer. He studied in Uherská Skalice and Strážnice, then went on to study philosophy and theology in Brno before being ordained in 1850.

During his priestly career he served in several Moravian parishes, including Dražovice, Topolany, Brankovice, Pustiměř, Tichá near Frenštát pod Radhoštěm, Blansko, and later Břest near Kroměříž. Alongside his pastoral work, he wrote religious literature as well as satire, humorous stories, and verse, showing a range that went beyond strictly devotional writing.

He died on May 29, 1891, in Břest. Remembered as both a clergyman and a versatile author, he stands out for bringing together faith, everyday observation, and a warm sense of humor.
