About the author

Born in Chicago, Paul Dickey was an American playwright, screenwriter, actor, and director whose work flourished in the early 1900s. He is especially remembered for Broadway successes such as The Ghost Breaker, The Misleading Lady, and The Broken Wing, several of which were later adapted for film.

Before focusing on writing, he worked on stage as a performer and director, and his career crossed easily between theater and the fast-growing movie business. That range helps explain why his stories often feel built for action and performance as much as for the page.

Dickey’s life was notably varied even beyond the arts: reliable sources also describe him as an early aviator. He died in New York in January 1933, leaving behind a body of popular stage and screen work that captures the energy of American entertainment in the years before Hollywood fully took over.
