About the author

Born in 1894, Patrick Philip William Braybrooke was an English literary critic and biographer who devoted much of his work to English writers of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, a sign of the regard his writing earned in literary circles.

Braybrooke is especially remembered for his study of G. K. Chesterton, and he also wrote widely on fiction, religion, and literary culture. His books show a strong interest in how writers' ideas, beliefs, and personalities shaped their work, making him a thoughtful guide for readers curious about the people behind the books.

He died in 1956. Though less widely known today than some of the authors he wrote about, his criticism remains a useful window into the literary conversations of his time.
