About the author

Born in 1877, Osborne John Peder Widtsoe was an educator and religious writer whose life connected scholarship, teaching, and church service. He served as principal of Latter-day Saints University in Salt Lake City and also taught English at the University of Utah.

He is also remembered for missionary service as the first missionary from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to serve in Rarotonga. Alongside his educational work, he wrote books on religion, including What Jesus Taught, aiming to present Christian ideas in a direct and accessible way.

Widtsoe died in 1920 at a relatively young age, but his writing and service left a lasting place in early Latter-day Saint history. For listeners interested in religious thought from that era, his work offers a window into both devotion and teaching in everyday language.
