About the author

Born Carl Anton Wetterbergh in Jönköping on June 6, 1804, he was a Swedish physician, writer, and graphic artist best known by the pseudonym Onkel Adam. He studied at Lund University and later worked as a military doctor, while building a parallel career in literature.

During the mid-1800s, he became a popular author in Sweden, publishing novels, short stories, and lively scenes from ordinary life. Sources also describe him as socially engaged, and his writing is often remembered for its approachable tone and interest in the people and habits of his time.

He died in Linköping on January 31, 1889. Today he is still remembered as a versatile cultural figure: a practicing doctor, a prolific writer, and a familiar literary voice in 19th-century Sweden.
