of Dublin John Jones

Very little biographical information appears to survive about this author. Library and book-record sources identify him simply as John Jones, of Dublin or John Jones, bookseller, of Dublin, which suggests he was connected with the Dublin book trade as well as writing.

He is best known for An Impartial Narrative of the Most Important Engagements Which Took Place Between His Majesty's Forces and the Rebels, During the Irish Rebellion, 1798, a work that was published in the years following the rebellion and later preserved by Project Gutenberg, Open Library, and the Internet Archive. The book presents itself as a carefully gathered account based on authentic letters and contemporary information.

Because confirmed personal details are scarce, the surviving record points more clearly to his work than to his private life. Even so, that work has kept his name in circulation as a source linked to one of the most dramatic episodes in late eighteenth-century Irish history.
