About the author

Born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1925, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943 while still in high school and later served for 28 years on active duty. During his career he fought in World War II and the Korean War, and he earned the Silver Star for gallantry in combat in Korea.

Alongside his military service, he became a historian of the Corps. While assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps, he worked with the Historical Branch and wrote A Brief History of the United States Marine Corps, a compact survey that helped introduce readers to the service's development and traditions.

He is also remembered as a coauthor of U.S. Marine Operations in Korea, 1950–1953, Volume 4: The East-Central Front. His writing is valued for being direct, informative, and grounded in official historical research, making it a strong fit for listeners interested in military history and the Marine Corps story.
