About the author

Born in 1869, he was a Scottish minister who went on to become a prominent voice in the Church of Scotland. Reliable sources identify him as a religious author as well as a church leader, and note that he served as Moderator of the General Assembly in 1927.

In later years, he was also appointed Chaplain-in-Ordinary to the King. Alongside his ministry, he published religious writing, including works such as God and the Soldier and the autobiographical The Former Days.

He died in 1952. Although he is less widely known today than some literary figures with the same surname, his career joined pastoral work, public speaking, and reflective religious writing in a way that gave him a lasting place in Scottish church history.
